Idea change

On the first review of our idea people began to tell us they were confused and that we should instead have a video on people making drugs instead of taking them. Soon after beginning this we were again told another idea which linked revenge with drugs and now that is what we have started to do now.

Even though we have had to change our idea 3 times we have managed to get most of our filming done and are currently working on finishing the music and getting some final shots. Even though this is an inconvenience for our group we are still trying our hardest to get everything together before it is too late.

Editing our video

This is near the end of our editing for our first final draft of our video. You see that i've added the sound all the clips and now I have just started to add the titles to the video. Also due to a suggestion we have added camera click sounds to our video for when it shows pictures.

Day 6 of Filming 11th March

On the 6th day, after school we all went back to my house to try and get some more shots to make the film longer, we added some miscellaneous shots, such as a shot of him putting the camera down and adding the lenses to it. We then found a map which we thought could be useful, so we decided to get some shots of him using the map to plot down locations he has targeted and will be going to next. After all of this we finally had enough footage which eventually led up to about 1:50 which should be enough.

Day 5 of Filming 10th March

On Monday we asked if we were allowed to go out and film whilst we had free periods for most of the day, once let out, when went back to my house to film shots of the protagonist arriving at his headquarters where he keeps pictures of drug dealers. We went out and bought two newspapers so that we could rip them up and put them on the table to make it look more believable. When then got the shots of him pulling out his recent photos on a table, then circling his current victim and writing information about him. Looking through this later on we noticed we were still low on footage, so we went out and got more photographs of deals to add to the montage, unfortunately with all of this footage we still was only able to get a minute of useful video, so we had to go get more.

Day 4 of Filming 7th March

Today we went out to start filming our new idea, we went to Wickham open space again, with the help of Louis to to get some of the starting shots of the protagonist taking photographs of people making a drug deal, when then went and found different locations to take pictures of me doing different drugs deals with people so that we could collaborate them into a montage of pictures which shows what the protagonist has been doing. After we had got them shots, I uploaded them to the macs and showed everyone, we then decided that we needed more footage so the next free day we had will would go out and film.

Idea change

After showing our rough cut of the video, we was told the video was too confusing and maybe we should change our idea to someone making drugs, instead of doing drugs, we have now gone to start filming again, but this time with the new idea. Jonathan has already got a few shots of the new one from when he went to a science lab, whilst me and michael had an i.t lesson.

Day 3 of Filming 19th February

Today we met up at the end of elsa again and we knew that we needed to reshoot some of the cocaine shots that we had recently taken, so we decided to go back to my house to go reshoot them, once we had reshot them scenes, we then went at filmed more of the journey shots, we went from my house and ended up at Jonathan's where we shot our final scenes. And we all agreed that it seemed that we were done. Once we were finished and all went home, I again uploaded the new footage to my computer and then sent it to everyone in my group. I also made a rough cut of the video at my home.

Day 2 of Filming 18th February

On the second day of filming everyone met at the end of elsa road and we went to my house to film shots of Jonathan leaving it, then we did the shots of Jonathan walking to Wickham open space to show the journey he takes to meet his friend. We did this for a 2 hours and then left and we all went home, I uploaded all of the videos to my computer then sent them to everyone else in the group so they can have a look at them, after they had a look at them we decided that we still needed to redo a few more shots for tomorrow.

Day 1 of Filming 17th of February

On Monday we met up at the end of Elsa road, we then went to my house to start our filming. We started with the cocaine shots and the main character getting ready in the house. After we had made them shots we looked through them and decided if we needed any reshoots. The process of getting these shots took about a couple of hours. Once we all went home, I uploaded these videos to my computer and sent them to everyone in the group so they can get a proper look at what we need to shoot next and if we need to reshoot anything else.

Media lesson: Sound

In our media lesson, we looked out different ways sound is used to create different effects, in the lesson we were given video cameras to go around school and try to create different sounds which would usually be heard or used in a horror movie.

We used things such as puddles, a coin scratching, using objects to move along a radiator to make a weird sound that could represent the sound of something growling or making a noise to scare someone.

Codes and conventions of crime drama

Codes and Conventions of a Crime/Drama

Typical codes and conventions of a crime/drama film would be:
- A chase scene
- Involvement of props that can be harmful such as knifes or guns.
- The villain would usually have some unidentified problems that will be revealed at the very end of the film.
- The hero who saves everyone will have a partner.

- Characters will usually include someone vulnerable and gangs.
- Crimes will usually be murder/dramas will usually be to do with family of the protagonist.
- Conflicts due to difference in policing.
- Betrayal.

Media Lesson 2

This week in our media lesson, we did another powerpoint presentation on Richard Morisson who creates title sequences for films. We included the films he has made titles for, information about his life, then we described two title sequences for films he made.

Analysis of Anatomy of a murder (1959) 

Mise-en-scene/Camera

The colours used in this title sequence are black, white and grey. The grey in the title sequence can mean many different things in a film, it could mean that the film is either very depressing or dull. It could also mean that the film is a very dark one which would be backed up by the title which has the word 'Murder' in it. From what you see in the title is very similar to work that he usually does, he has a silhouette to move around the screen, this is there to represent a crime scene, he gets it to move around so that he can have the titles in different parts of the body.

Sound/Editing

The music used in this title sequence is very mysterious yet cheerful feel to it, this creates the effect the film will be a light-hearted crime thriller, condescending what I said early about the film being dark due to the colours. The body parts move around the screen to show the different people who have created the film, they mainly used the arms, in a few shots the arms came on screen and wiped away some titles to reveal some more.

Media Lesson 1

In the class we did a presentation as a film pitch for project that we were given. In the presentation we discussed the plot, actors, budget, release date, profit and log line. 


The first Mickey Mouse cartoon, circa 1929, features both Mickey and Minnie, but its main title, “Plane Crazy,” is lackluster:

Over time, the very appearance of white-on-black title lettering became a visual trope, recurring as it does in practically every Woody Allen film. Allen relies on the device primarily to build a visual identity, although its economy is a practical advantage, too.

The way he relies on the devices to build a visual identity is interesting and could be a useful idea for when we make our title sequence.

The concept of score visualization first conceived by Oskar Fischinger in his film “Studies” anticipates the effects created by Saul Bass in “The Man With the Golden Arm” (1955) and later by Susan Bradley in “Monsters, Inc” (2001):



The way the title starts gives me a detective feel, this can link back to our film since it is to do with gangs and crime, however I feel that this could be a very helpful title in inspiring ours. 





The revolutionary title sequence for “Se7en” (1995) by Kyle Cooper was named by New York Times Magazine as “one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s”:



The sound and music used in this title sequence, gives a very creepy and on edge feel, however the way they have used random sounds such as a record scratching to add to their title can be used in different ways.
